How it works

In most cases your door stays exactly as it is

The common solutions go on the inside. A small motor sits there and turns the key or the cylinder, exactly the way you would do it by hand. From the street nothing looks different.

  • With almost every solution your mechanical key stays usable as a backup
  • On top of that you unlock by phone, number code, fingerprint or fob, whichever you prefer
  • The devices run on batteries and let you know in good time before the power runs low
  • You decide who gets in and when, and you can change any permission at any time

The part nobody mentions

Whether the door really opens depends on your lock

There are two different things inside your door: the angled latch that snaps shut when the door falls closed, and the square bolt you throw with the key. A smart lock turns the key. Whether the latch comes back too depends on how your lock is built.

  • With a fixed knob outside, the key pulls the latch back on most doors, so the door opens
  • With a handle outside that is usually not the case, so a door release or a motor lock is needed as well
  • A motor can only turn the key, it can neither pull nor push the door
  • We tell you in advance what applies to your door instead of surprising you with it

Four things you can check yourself in two minutes

These four things decide more than any review winner. Have a look yourself beforehand if you like, otherwise we go through them together on site.

  1. Is there a knob or a handle on the outside?

This decides whether your door opens just by turning the key, or whether something else is needed for you to get in without a key.

A fixed knob suggests it will work without an add-on.

  2. Does the key turn easily?

A motor has less force than your hand. If your door runs easily today, the motor will have an easy time of it later.

This is exactly why we adjust hinges and strike plate and service the locking mechanism.

  3. Can you get in from outside while a key is in the lock inside?

With a smart lock, a key or a knob stays in place on the inside permanently. So your cylinder has to be built in a way that still lets you unlock from outside.

If it is not, we swap the cylinder for one that is.

  4. Do you rent?

As a tenant you are free to replace the lock cylinder yourself. You are only obliged to restore the original state when you move out. Permission only comes into it once the door itself is altered, so drilling, cabling or gluing something on permanently.

We keep your old cylinder and hand it back to you labelled.

One thing we always check ourselves on site: whether your door is a fire door or part of an escape route. Different rules apply there, and then we advise you differently.

How it works with us

From your first question to a lock that is set up and running, all from one company

1

You tell us what you would like

By phone, on WhatsApp or through the form. Just describe it in your own words.

2

We look at your door

We check the lock, the cylinder and how the door runs, and also establish whether it is a fire door or part of an escape route. Then we recommend exactly one solution at a fixed price.

3

We adjust the door and install

First the hinges, strike plate and locking mechanism are put right, then the new lock goes on. That way everything runs easily and lasts longer.

4

We set it up and show you

Codes, fingerprints, app and permissions. We only leave once it feels obvious to you.

Common questions about smart door locks

So which model is the best one?
That depends on your door and on what you want. We follow the market, advise independently of any brand and know what holds up on real doors. In conversation we narrow down what matters to you, then put two or three options side by side with prices. The decision is yours.
What does it cost with you?
For private customers at a fixed price: advice at your door costs 39 €, installing one lock costs 89 € until 30 September 2026 instead of the regular 129 €, including advice, fitting, setup, a joint test and travel within 10 km. If you book the installation after the advice, we credit the 39 € in full, so you only pay the remaining 50 €. From two locks upwards and for business customers we put together a quote.
Is the device included in the price?
No, the device comes on top, and there is a good reason for that: we are not tied to any brand and only choose after measuring up what suits your door. We order it for you, or fit one you already have. Also on top are a suitable cylinder and adjusting the door, if yours needs it. We see both when measuring up and name the price before we start.
Can this be done on any door?
On the vast majority of flat and front doors, yes. Care is needed with fire and smoke doors and with doors on escape and rescue routes. Only tested and approved locks are permitted there, and even replacing a cylinder can void the approval of the whole door. In an emergency it decides whether people get out quickly. So we always establish what kind of door we are dealing with first. Such doors have their own approved solutions, and we advise you on those too.
Can I still use my normal key?
With most solutions, yes. What matters is that your cylinder allows unlocking from outside while the key or knob sits on the inside. If your current cylinder cannot do that, we replace it with one that can.
Does a smart lock make my door safer against burglary?
Not on its own, and we would rather say so openly. A unit fitted on the inside turns the existing key, nothing more. How well your door stands up to a break-in attempt still comes down to the cylinder and the door furniture. That is why we look at both and suggest what makes sense.
What happens when the battery is empty?
The devices warn you in good time, usually weeks in advance. Depending on the model you recharge the battery at the door, change batteries, or fall back on a built-in reserve battery. With almost every solution your mechanical key remains as a backup. We clarify which fallback you get before you buy.
Will my front door open even after it has fallen shut?
That depends on how your lock is built. With a fixed knob outside, the key pulls the angled latch back on most doors, so the door opens. With a handle outside that is usually not the case, and a door release or a motor lock is needed as well. We look at your door and tell you before you decide.
I rent my flat. Am I even allowed to do this?
As a rule, yes. You are allowed to replace the lock cylinder as a tenant and that is yours to decide. You are only obliged to restore the original state when you move out, which is why we keep your old cylinder and hand it back to you labelled. It is different once the door itself is altered, so drilling, cabling or gluing something on permanently. Agree that with your landlord beforehand.
Why do you adjust the door before installing?
Because a motor has less force than your hand. If the door hangs, the latch scrapes on the strike plate or the locking mechanism runs stiff, the lock struggles with every opening, the battery drains faster and in the worst case the door stays shut. So we put the door right first and install afterwards.
Do I need Wi-Fi or a smart home for this?
No. Many solutions simply run on their own: you unlock with a number code, fingerprint or fob and need neither internet nor an app. A network connection only comes into play once you want to unlock from away or connect everything to other devices. Just tell us what you have in mind.
Do you also install Nuki, tedee, SwitchBot or Yale?
Yes. We install and set up all common smart locks: Nuki Smart Lock (Go, Pro, Ultra), tedee GO2 and PRO, SwitchBot Lock Pro and Ultra, Yale Linus L2, Burg-Wächter secuENTRY, ABUS HomeTec Pro, Aqara U200 or Bold. Bring your own device or let us order it for you. We look at your door first, because whether a model fits is decided by the cylinder, not the brand.
